Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram now offer Llama 3-powered Meta AI chatbot
Meta has upgraded its AI chatbot, Meta AI, with its latest large language model (LLM) known as Llama 3. This advanced chatbot is now operational in the search bars of the four primary applications — Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger — across various countries. Additionally, the company has introduced other new features, including faster image generation and access to web search results.
Meta AI expands reach to over a dozen countries
Initially launched in the US, Meta AI is now extending its reach to over a dozen English-speaking countries, including Canada, Ghana, Australia, Jamaica, New Zealand, Nigeria, Malawi, Pakistan, South Africa, Singapore, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. India was notably absent from this announcement as Meta plans to continue testing its AI in the country. However, some Indian users have reported that the Meta AI icon is already appearing in their accounts.
Meta's chatbot will be accessible across multiple platforms
Meta aims to make its AI chatbot accessible across as many platforms as possible, including individual and group chats and even in users' feeds. For instance, users can ask questions related to posts in their Facebook feed. However, the company acknowledges the potential drawbacks of having AI omnipresent, such as models generating random and often nonsensical responses, which could pose a content moderation challenge. Meta is actively working on improving these systems.
New website for AI interaction
Pursuing competing services in the market, such as those offered by OpenAI, Meta has launched a new meta.ai website. It allows users to interact with the AI chatbot. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, stated that meta.ai could potentially be the "most intelligent AI assistant that you can freely use." This statement positions Meta as a significant player in the growing consumer interest in generative AI tools.
Meta introduces new features to AI chatbot
Meta has also introduced new features to its AI chatbot, including quicker image generation and access to web search results powered by Google and Bing. Users can now ask Meta AI for writing or recipe suggestions, and see real-time changes to images they request the tool to animate or convert into a GIF. The company has also improved its image-generation tools' ability to spell out words.
