Google's 'Ananta' campus in Bengaluru is one of its largest
What's the story
Google has officially opened Ananta, its newest campus in Bengaluru and one of the largest worldwide.
The new facility is located in Mahadevapura, a suburb in East Bengaluru. The tech giant calls this development a "major milestone" in its commitment to India.
The campus covers 1.6 million square feet and can host more than 5,000 employees from various Google units including Android, Pay, Search, Cloud, Maps, Play and Google DeepMind among others.
Facility
A hub for collaboration and innovation
The Ananta campus is built to promote collaboration with neighborhood-style workspaces. It also offers people smaller nooks and booths for focused work.
The facility has a central gathering space called Sabha, tactile flooring for visually impaired people, and walking/jogging paths for casual meetings or peaceful breaks.
This unique design philosophy seeks to create an inclusive environment that promotes teamwork and individual productivity.
Sustainable practices
Eco-friendly initiatives and technological advancements
The Ananta campus houses one of India's biggest installations of electro-chromic glass, and has a sculpted fluid facade.
As part of Google's sustainability efforts, the facility recycles all of its wastewater and harvests hundreds of liters of rainwater on-site.
These initiatives not only highlight Google's commitment to environmental responsibility but also showcase its technological advancements within the new campus.
Strategic expansion
Ananta signifies Google's growing presence in India
The launch of Ananta comes as Google continues to expand its product and engineering presence in India.
Reportedly, last year, several technical and engineering roles were relocated from the US to India as part of a large-scale reorganization.
With over 10,000 employees, India now represents one of Google's largest employee bases outside the US.
This strategic expansion highlights the importance of the Indian market in Google's global operations.
Mission statement
Ananta: A platform for world-class products and partnerships
Anand Rangarajan, Vice President of DeepMind, and Sunil Rao, the Vice President of Global Delivery at Google Cloud India, said the new campus is part of Google's ongoing efforts to "build with and for India and the world."
They hope Ananta will further accelerate this mission by permitting them to deliver world-class products, foster deeper partnerships with customers, and continue focusing on solving complex challenges faced by users, businesses, and start-ups in India and around the world.
