MediaTek's latest smartphone processor supports Google and Meta's AI models
Taiwan-based semiconductor company, MediaTek, has introduced its latest flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9300+. Specifically designed for high-end smartphones, this new chipset boasts advanced on-device generative AI processing capabilities and extensive support for large language models (LLMs). The Dimensity 9300+ is compatible with a range of LLMs including Google Gemini Nano and Meta Llama 2.
Dimensity 9300+ to boost generative AI applications
JC Hsu, Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek, stated that the Dimensity 9300+ will significantly contribute to the development of generative AI applications. This is attributed to its extensive LLM support and on-device LoRA Fusion. "To enhance these AI experiences, the Dimensity 9300+ offers impressive performance and enhancements to speed up LLM inference, running tokens much faster for a better user experience," said Hsu.
Dimensity 9300+ chipset's technical specifications
The Dimensity 9300+ is constructed using TSMC's third-generation 4nm process. It features an Arm Cortex-X4 core that operates at up to 3.4GHz, three additional Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. The chipset also incorporates MediaTek's innovative NeuroPilot Speculative Decode Acceleration technology for AI processing. The APU 790 AI engine allows the Dimensity 9300+ to support LLMs with parameters ranging from 1 billion to 13 billion, with scalability up to 33 billion.
Dimensity 9300+ outperforms competitors in AI processing
According to MediaTek, the NeuroPilot Speculative Decode Acceleration technology enables the Dimensity 9300+ to process LLMs with seven billion parameters at a rate of 22 tokens per second. This speed is more than double that of competitive mass market solutions. For gaming enthusiasts, the chipset integrates a second-generation hardware raytracing engine with an Arm Immortalis-G720 GPU for fast raytracing experiences at 60FPS and console-grade global illumination effects.
Dimensity 9300+ offers advanced image processing capabilities as well
The Dimensity 9300+ is equipped with MediaTek's Imagiq 990 ISP, providing advanced image processing capabilities including an AI Semantic Analysis Video Engine for enhanced AI videography features. It supports real-time video capture with up to 16 scene segmentation. Additionally, the chipset integrates MediaTek's MiraVision 990 which uses advanced AI depth engine technologies to enhance smartphone content. The Dimensity 9300+ also features a built-in 5G R16 modem that supports speeds of up to 7Gbps downlink.
