This man's epic marriage proposal showed up on Google Maps
From New Year to Christmas, Google keeps treating its users with interesting new surprises packed in Search and several other products. The company uses these tricks to spread smiles around the globe. And, just recently, it unintentionally surprised a German couple - by capturing their epic marriage proposal on Google Maps. Here's what happened.
German man's proposal etched on corn field
Back in May 2019, Steffen Schwarz, a part-time farmer, decided to propose the love of his life in a rather epic way. He spelled the words 'Will you marry me' in German across a five-acre cornfield and asked his long-time girlfriend to fly a drone over the place. This popped the romantic question to her - and she replied with a yes!
But, the proposal was grander than Schwarz could have imagined
As the duo started preparing for their nuptials, set to take place in June this year, Schwarz learned that his proposal had received a way bigger audience than he could have imagined. His aunt told him that the romantic message he had etched on the field in Huettenberg, central Germany, appears in the aerial photographs taken by Google for Maps.
Schwarz had no clue about this
As his aunt shared the image of the cornfield, Schwarz was totally surprised. He knew that his message was big, but had no clue that it was big enough to be captured by Google and appear as a symbol of his love on the mapping service. Schwarz added that even his girlfriend wasn't able to see the message on the first try.
This isn't the first case of Google Maps' phenomenal photography
While the gift from Google is amazing, it is worth noting that this isn't the first time the internet giant has captured something interesting on Maps. Over the last 15 years of its existence, the service has photographed a lot of unique stuff, including strange arrangements of rocks, weird natural formations, as well as a guitar-like mansion.
