Toyota Fortuner rival Mahindra XUV700 to launch on October 9
The 2018 Mahindra XUV700 will launch in India on October 9, according to reports. Codenamed as Y400, the XUV700 will be a rebranded version of the SsangYong Rexton G4 SUV which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2018. The new XUV700 SUV will be positioned above the incumbent XUV500, which is the most expensive car by Mahindra till now. Here's our roundup.
Mahindra XUV700: At a glance
The new XUV700 will get unique tooth grille design with a center-positioned Mahindra insignia. Further, the SUV will have sleek headlamps with LED DRLs, horizontal fog lamps, black skid plate, bigger air intakes, new roof rails, and alloy wheels. The XUV700 will measure 4,850mm in length, 1,960mm in width, and 1,825mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2,865mm and kerb weight of 2,095kgs.
Inside the cabin
The new XUV700 will have a full-sized 7 seat arrangement with Nappa leather upholstery, and a smart tailgate. Further, the SUV will come equipped with a 360-degree camera for parking assist, sunroof, a 9.2-inch HD touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7.0-inch LCD instrument cluster and a multispoke steering wheel with mounted controls.
Under the hood
The upcoming SUV is likely to be powered by a 2.2-liter petrol and 2.2-liter diesel motor. The petrol engine will churn out 220bhp and 225Nm of peak torque while the diesel motor will generate 185bhp and 420Nm of peak torque. Notably, the car will be offered with a 7-speed automatic gearbox sourced from Mercedes Benz with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.
The Mahindra XUV700 prices may start at Rs. 24 lakh
Thanks to heavy localization expected on the CKD units of second-generation Rexton, the upcoming Mahindra XUV700 is likely to start at Rs. 24 lakh. This means the new SUV will undercut its competitors such as the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Isuzu MU-X.
