Magic Editor now available to all Google Photos users
Google Photos announced last month that it would make its AI-powered tool, Magic Editor, free to all Android and iOS users. Initially launched with the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, the Magic Editor allows users to manipulate parts of a photo using "contextual presets" such as Sky, Golden hour, as well as Stylized. To access this feature, users can tap on the Magic Editor button in the bottom left corner of an image.
Magic Editor's usage and limitations
The Magic Editor feature can be utilized by "tap, circle, or brush to select," while zooming in helps pick out things. However, Google Photos users on Android and iOS will be limited to 10 Magic Editor library saves every month. To make additional edits beyond this limit, users will require a Google One Premium (2+TB) plan or be a Pixel user. The hardware requirements for Android include OS 8.0+, 4GB RAM or higher, and a 64-bit chipset.
Additional AI tools made free for Google Photos users
Alongside the Magic Editor, several other AI tools are also being made free for all Google Photos users. These include Magic Eraser, HDR effects for photos and videos, Portrait blur and light features in the Portrait light tool, Styles in the collage editor, and Video effects. Unblur, Sky suggestions, Color pop, and Cinematic photos, are also included. Google stated last month that it would begin rolling out these features from May 15.
Rollout of new features commences for Pixel owners
Reports have confirmed that the rollout of these new features has started for Pixel owners. The distribution is expected to continue "over the coming months." Previously, these tools were only accessible with a Google One subscription. This expansion is part of several changes by Google, including the discontinuation of VPN by Google One in June.
