macOS 10.15 Catalina now available: How to download and install
Apple has released macOS Catalina, the latest version of the company's desktop software, as a free upgrade for all eligible devices. The update brings a bunch of improvements and refinements including Apple Arcade (gaming service), new Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and Apple TV apps, Screen Time, and a new Sidecar feature that lets you use iPad as a second display.
These models will receive macOS Catalina update
If your device is running macOS Mojave, you will receive the Catalina update. As for devices, iMac (2012), MacBook Air (2012), MacBook (2015), iMac Pro (2017), MacBook Pro (2012), Mac Pro (2013), and Mac Mini (2012) and all respective upgraded models will get the update.
How to download and install macOS Catalina?
Apple seeds macOS updates automatically and you should get a notification when the update arrives for your machine. However, if automatic updates are off, you can manually check for the update. To do so, click on the Apple logo (top left corner) and then go to System Preferences > Software Update. Alternatively, you can also go to About this Mac > Software Update.
macOS Catalina won't support 32-bit apps
With macOS Catalina, Apple has dropped support for 32-bit apps. Hence, before you update your system to Catalina, make sure that you don't have any important 32-bit apps. Also, it is advised that you back up all your important data before updating the operating system.
macOS Catalina: Highlights
The latest macOS Catalina update replaces iTunes with new Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and Apple TV apps. The OS also allows you to control your Mac machine using your voice commands and manage the time spent in apps and on websites using Screen Time. Safari now works with Siri-suggestions and a new Find My app that lets you track other Apple devices and friends.

With macOS Catalina, Apple has also introduced a new Sidecar feature which allows Mac desktops to use iPad as a second display, or like a tablet input device using Apple Pencil with Mac apps. The OS also brings Mac Catalyst, a new technology that makes it easy for third-party developers to bring iPad apps to Mac.
