These 72 smartphones are getting the big Android Oreo update
Google introduced Android 8 Oreo, the successor to Nougat, last year, but it has only 1.1% adoption rate; the figures are expected to grow as smartphones start shipping with Oreo out-of-the-box. Meanwhile, many device makers, including Samsung, Xiaomi, Nokia, Vivo, are rolling out the latest Android OS update to their handsets. Here are the smartphones receiving Oreo. Xiaomi, Vivo smartphones you can expect Oreo on
Android Oreo update brings several new features like enhanced security settings, picture-in-picture mode, color icons, pinned shortcuts/widgets, and notification dots. Vivo recently announced that seven of its smartphones -X20, X20 Plus, X9, X9s, X9 Plus, X9s Plus, Xplay6- will get Oreo update. Meanwhile, Xiaomi will roll out Oreo to Redmi Note 5, Note 5 Pro, Mi Mix 2, Mi Max 2, and Mi A1.
Huge number of Samsung handsets to receive Oreo
South Korean electronics giant Samsung has as many as 13 smartphones lined up for the Android Oreo update. The list of such devices includes 2017 flagship Galaxy S8 and S8+, Note 8, 2016 flagship Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Galaxy A7 (2017), Galaxy A5 (2017), Galaxy J5 (2017), Galaxy J7, J7 Pro, and J7 Max (2017), Galaxy C7 Pro, and Galaxy C9 Pro.
What about smartphones from Nokia, Blackberry, and Micromax?
HMD Global is going to provide Android Oreo to almost all of its smartphone. Its flagship Nokia 8 has already started receiving Oreo update. Nokia 2, Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 would also get the update. Also, the high-end Blackberry KeyONE would be receiving the Oreo update. Indian smartphone company Micromax would bring Oreo to its Canvas Infinity and Evoke Dual Note.
Three LG smartphones, eight Moto devices on the list
Korean electronics giant LG, which has been struggling with its smartphone business for some time now, would be rolling out Android Oreo on its LG G6, LG V20, and LG Q6 handsets. Meanwhile, the Lenovo-owned Motorola is bringing Android Oreo to its Moto Z, Moto Z Play, Moto Z2 Play, Moto X4, Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus, Moto G5S, and Moto G5S Plus.
Sony to bring Oreo to seven handsets
Japanese tech giant Sony is expected to update many of its smartphones to Android Oreo. They include Sony Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, Xperia XZ, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1, and Xperia XA1 Ultra. Coming to Taiwanese company HTC's devices, HTC 10, HTC U11, and HTC U Ultra would be receiving the latest version of the Android OS.
Chinese smartphone makers OnePlus, Lenovo, Huawei
Coming to OnePlus, the Chinese company already confirmed that OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5, and OnePlus 5T would be updated to Oreo. OnePlus 3/3T are already receiving the update. Also, Lenovo's K8, K8 Plus, and K8 Note will be getting the Android Oreo update. Chinese electronics company Huawei-owned smartphone sub-brand Honor will be updating its Honor 8 and Honor 8 Pro smartphones.
10 ASUS handsets set to receive Oreo update
Taiwanese device maker ASUS has already confirmed that most of its smartphone line-ups would be updated to Android Oreo. The list includes Asus ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro (ZD552KL), ZenFone 4 Selfie (ZD553KL/ZB553KL), Zenfone 3 Ultra (ZU680KL), Zenfone AR (ZS571KL), ZenFone 3 Max (ZC553KL/ZC520TL), ZenFone 3s Max (ZC521TL), Zenfone 3 (ZE520KL/ZE552KL), Zenfone 3 Deluxe (ZS570KL), Zenfone 3 Laser (ZC551KL), and Zenfone 3 Zoom (ZX551ML).
