This Lenovo flagship is the most powerful smartphone yet
Lenovo Z5 Pro GT is, without doubt, the world's most powerful smartphone yet. The flagship features an all-screen slider design and packs top-of-the-line internals including the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and 12GB of RAM - highest RAM ever seen in a smartphone. Notably, the phone will go on sale in China starting January 24. Here's our roundup.
Lenovo Z5 Pro GT flaunts an all-screen slider design
Like the Lenovo Z5 Pro we saw last month, the GT edition comes with the same bezel-less all-screen design with a mechanical slider. However, it also gets some red accents around the frame and a carbon fiber pattern under the glass back. Further, the phone features a 6.39-inch full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Lenovo Z5 Pro GT retains Z5 Pro's camera
Like the Z5 Pro, the GT edition gets a dual rear-camera setup with a 16MP (f/1.8) Sony IMX519 sensor and a 24MP (f/1.8) Sony IMX576 sensor, paired with a dual-tone LED flash. On the front, the mechanical slider packs a 16MP (f/2.2) selfie snapper, paired with an 8MP IR sensor that enables Face Unlock functionality.
Under the hood
The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT is powered by the latest 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, paired with upto 12GB RAM and upto 512GB of internal storage. Under the hood, it packs a 3,350mAh battery and runs Android Pie-based ZUI10. Further, the phone supports dual SIMs, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, USB Type-C, and packs all the standard sensors.
Pricing and availability
In China, the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT starts at CNY 2,698 (Rs. 27,700) for the entry-level 6GB/128GB model. Further, the mid-end 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256 variants are priced at CNY 2,998 (Rs. 30,800) and CNY 3,398 (Rs. 41,100), respectively. Lastly, the top-end 12GB/512GB option costs CNY 4,398 (Rs. 45,100). Pre-orders will begin on January 15, while its sale will start from January 24.
#JustAThought: Do we really need 12GB of RAM?
Well, a RAM is essentially useful to run multiple apps and play the latest games (because mobile GPUs don't have their stand-alone VRAM and use system's memory). But frankly, one doesn't need this much RAM unless you write codes and test apps (or simply want to show-off free RAM on your smartphone). 12GB RAM definitely is a marketing gimmick than really a necessity.
