#NostalgiaAlert: Lenovo CEO hints at Moto RAZR comeback
After HMD Global's successful run to revive the old Nokia phones, Lenovo-owned Motorola is also planning to bring back its legendary phone - the Moto RAZR. At an interview in the recently concluded Mobile World Congress, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing has hinted that Motorola's classic RAZR series may soon make a comeback and may even feature foldable screens. Here's more on this development.
Moto's classic RAZR series may be in the works
"With the new technology, particularly foldable screens, I think you will see more and more innovation on our smartphone design. So hopefully what you just described [the Motorola Razr brand] will be developed or realized very soon," said Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing.
Return of the Retro
A revamped Moto RAZR phone is not much of a surprise today, given how Nokia has started the trend of bringing back its iconic retro models like the Nokia 3310 and Nokia 8110 with modern features like 4G VoLTE and new optimized OS. With the development of foldable displays, a new RAZR phone with top-of-the-line specs sounds like a great idea for the brand.
The iconic Moto RAZR series
The Moto RAZR series, starting with Moto RAZR V3 launched in 2004, featured an ultra-slim iconic clamshell-style. Motorola is reported to have sold 130 million units during its run. The phone featured dual screens (main internal screen and external notification screen) along with an electroluminescent keypad, 13.5 MB internal storage (expandable up to 1GB via microSD), Bluetooth 1.0 and mini-USB standard for data transfer.
