Jio to now offer first-of-its-kind interactive entertainment: Here's how
Reliance Jio has partnered with Israel-based startup Screenz to create a platform called "Jio Screenz" that will allow real-time, two-way conversations between broadcasters and audiences. Jio Screenz is thus slated to be a first-of-its-kind platform for "entertainment-based interactivity" in India. While neither party revealed the financial details, the deal is estimated to be worth around $28mn. Here's more.
What exactly will Jio Screenz offer?
The real-time, two-way interaction between broadcasters and audiences offered by Jio Screenz will allow for entertainment-based gamification never before seen in India. It will come in the form of quizzes, polls, and votes during TV shows. The Screenz platform has already been employed by the who's who in global entertainment including Sony, Fox, ABC, Univision, and Viacom, among others.
The platform will also allow for targeted advertising
"This dual-screen experience is the next game-changer and will redefine passive advertising on television and mobile. To ensure a continuous learning and feedback loop, it [Jio Screenz platform] supports rich data reporting and creates unique profiles for each user, hence enabling targeted advertisement," said Jio.
The Screenz platform has been used in several popular shows
Screenz was founded in 2011 by Eli Uzan, and is part of one of Israel's biggest digital entertainment houses, The Box Group. The two-way interactive platform by Screenz has been used by over 30 leading broadcasters in a variety of genres. Popular shows where the platform has been used include MasterChef, Hell's Kitchen, The Million Pound Drop, Big Brother, and The Taste, among others.
New era for interactive entertainment in the Indian content market
The platform will be rolled out to television content creators, thus allowing them to conceptualize and create new, innovative, and engaging real-time interactions with their audience through quizzes, polls and the like. Conversations from Google, Facebook, and Twitter will also be integrated by Jio Screenz.
Jio's growing footprint in the interactive entertainment segment
The partnership with Screenz significantly expands Reliance Jio's growing footprint in the interactive entertainment segment. In recent months, the telecom giant had launched Jio Cricket Play Along, which was an interactive gamified experience for IPL viewers. Earlier this month, Jio also announced the launch of an AI-led brand management platform called Jio Interact, which sports virtual showrooms, video call centers, and real-time celebrity engagement.
