Jio working on 'Open Telecom AI Platform': What is it?
What's the story
In a major development, Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) has announced a strategic partnership with tech giants AMD, Cisco, and Nokia.
The collaboration will see the firms develop an Open Telecom AI Platform to deliver real-world AI-driven solutions for telecom operators and service providers.
The initiative was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona. The platform will boost efficiency, security, capabilities, as well as create new revenue opportunities for the service provider industry.
AI revolution
Advanced AI integration to revolutionize telecom operations
The Open Telecom AI Platform will revolutionize telecom operations by embedding cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) into network systems.
It will act as a central intelligence layer for telecom and digital services, focused on enhancing network security, efficiency, and lowering total cost of ownership for operators.
The system will be LLM-agnostic and open APIs-based, leveraging a range of AI technologies including agentic AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), domain-specific Small Language Models (SLMs), and traditional machine learning techniques.
Executive insight
Jio emphasizes the platform's potential
Mathew Oommen of Reliance Jio, highlighted the possibilities of the Open Telecom AI Platform.
He said, "By harnessing agentic AI across all telco layers, we are building a multimodal, multidomain orchestrated workflow platform that redefines efficiency, intelligence and security for the telecom industry."
This emphasizes the revolutionary effect this new platform could bring to telecom operations.
Contribution details
Tech giants to contribute expertise
As part of this collaboration, JPL, AMD, Cisco and Nokia will leverage their unique expertise.
AMD will provide high-performance computing solutions, Cisco will offer integrated solutions with networking, computing and analytics capabilities, and Nokia will contribute its expertise in RAN (Radio Access Network), Core as well as transport technologies.
Customer role
Jio to be the 1st customer of the platform
Jio will be the first customer to leverage this new platform, building what these companies are calling a "replicable reference architecture" for global service providers.
The Open Telecom AI Platform is not only seen as a network enhancement tool but also as a driving force for generating new revenue opportunities in the telecom sector.
