ISRO to help UP Police in crime mapping analytics
What's the story
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh Police to help it map crimes.
Under this, the UP Police will make its data available to ISRO and through the latter's analytical software and predictive systems, map, visualize and create reports about criminal incidents in the state.
Details
The MoU is valid for three years
According to an official spokesman, in addition to mapping and analyzing crimes, ISRO's software will also allow the UP Police to build profiles of serial offenders and criminals and also keep a record of complainants.
This will ultimately help the officers in predictive policing so that they can not only solve the crime, but also actively prevent it.
Purpose
Need to detect crime with an objective mind: UP Police
For the purpose of crime mapping, the tools and technologies that ISRO will provide to the UP Police have been developed by the Advanced Data Processing Research Institute (ADRIN) in Hyderabad.
After the MoU was signed, an officer said that the police today need to be scientific in its approach as crime is constantly changing dimensions.
