ISRO Chairman S Somanath pens autobiography to inspire people
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman S Somanath has written an autobiography in Malayalam, titled "Nilavu Kudicha Simhangal," which he says is meant to inspire those with talent but lacking self-confidence. Set to release in November, the book details Somanath's journey, right from his humble beginnings to leading the successful Chandrayaan-3 moon mission. He hopes his story will motivate others to pursue their dreams despite facing challenges.
'The book is not intended to teach my life story'
In his autobiography, Somanath underscores the value of perseverance and hard work. The 59-year-old ISRO Chairman recounts his experiences of overcoming financial hardships during college, such as living in modest accommodations to cut costs and riding an old bicycle for transportation. "The book is not intended to teach my life story. Its only intention is to inspire people to chase their dreams while battling adversities in life," he said.
Somanath believes in making the most of opportunities
The ISRO Chairman emphasizes the importance of recognizing opportunities and making the best career options in life. "We should have some luck initially, but we should also be mentally prepared to accept and make use of opportunities that come our way," Somanath said. "Similarly, several people will also come our way with a purpose, and we should be able to realize their role in our lives." That would help in our career growth, he added.
Somanath says the country gave him immense opportunities
Somanath also recognizes the influential individuals who contributed to his professional development, including former ISRO Chairman K Radhakrishnan. It was Somanath's father who got him an admission form for the engineering course. Otherwise, he would have likely joined BSc or some other course. He recounts there was no one to guide him in the initial years of his studies but said that the country opened immense opportunities, per PTI.
Autobiography written in Malayalam
Somanath opted to write his autobiography in Malayalam, his native language, as it allows him to express himself comfortably. Published by Kerala-based Lipi Publications, the book will delve into his personal life and professional journey with ISRO, featuring stories about rocket production, PSLV, GSLV Mark 3, and the Chandrayaan-3 mission, among other details. In fact, it was the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission that led him to come out with the book soon, reports PTI.
