Prank or not? Tinder claims to be adding height verification
Amid several April Fools' Day pranks, Tinder has made the claim of mandating height verification. In a recent blog post, the dating platform announced its users would have to get their height verified to maintain the element of honesty in dating. The option is not available but the company says it will launch it soon. Here's everything you need to know.
'Height-fishing' on Tinder
Citing its own study, Tinder claims most people who mark themselves as 5'10ers on Tinder are 5'6''. This, it says, not only hurts their matches but also affects the chances of those who are actually 5'10'' and not lying. "Did it ever occur to you that honesty is what separates humans from sinister monsters? Of course not," the company wrote in the blog post.

Now, Tinder wants to stop the 'charade'
Now, to stop this 'charade,' Tinder is claiming that it will introduce height verification, which users of its service would have to go through to add their real age on their dating profile. "To require everyone under 6' to own up to their real height, we're bringing truthfulness back into the world of online dating," the company said about the feature. Really?
You'll have to upload a picture next to a building
Tinder will give verified users a 'height verification badge' (HVB), but in order to get it, you'll have to upload your picture standing next to any commercial building. From this, the company says it will "do some state-of-the-art verifying and you'll receive your badge directly on your profile." Interestingly, it doesn't say anything about how your height would be assessed from a photo.
This could be an April Fools' Day prank
Tinder has already freaked a number of people out by claiming that it would launch height verification soon. However, in our opinion, it is nothing but a prank that the dating giant is playing on its users. Yes, the announcement was made on March 29 which is two days before April 1, but that's exactly how companies try to trick their followers.
