Snapchat pulls a Facebook: May allow third-party apps
According to reports, Snapchat is soon going to allow people to use their Snapchat accounts to connect with third-party apps. The photo-sharing app's beta version features a new section under the Settings page called 'Connected Apps.' Notably, this is the very functionality that has gotten Facebook into the Cambridge Analytica mess.
Learning from Facebook's mistakes: Take control before it's too late
If this already makes you want to get off Snapchat, here's how you can export all your data from the platform before deleting your account. Snapchat stores all your Snaps in its cloud storage system called Memories. You will have to go to Memories and individually save each photo or video to your local camera roll. Unfortunately, there's no way to batch-export from Memories.
How to export your data from Snapchat's servers
You can also start saving your Snaps to your camera roll by default. Go to Settings, select Memories, click on 'Save To...,' and pick either 'Memories & Camera Roll' or 'Camera Roll Only.' Next, to save Snapchat contacts, use a Github script to access its API, which allows for quick exportation of all contacts. But be forewarned, Snapchat can reportedly ban you for this.
Download the data that Snapchat has stored
Lastly, just like with Facebook and Google, you can download all the data that Snapchat has stored on you. This includes your account history, the purchases you've made on the app, details of how you use the app, and your "demographic profile."
