iPhone 8's glass back will be a nightmare to fix
Apple's iPhone 8 was recently taken apart by iFixit, a firm which sells repair parts and helps consumers fix their tech products. The discoveries were pretty standard and not something that were out of the ordinary. However, some interesting tidbits were discovered in this teardown process, which one should take a look at if one intends to buy this phone. Here's what they found.
There is a battery anomaly
The battery of iPhone 8 is smaller than that of iPhone 7. The iPhone 8 contains a 3.82 V, 1821mAh battery whereas iPhone 7 has 1960mAh battery inside it. Then again, there's no need to be alarmed because Apple said that it has boosted the battery efficiency of iPhone 8. Hopefully, Apple has kept its word, since iPhones aren't exactly known for battery prowess.
The back will give you trouble
The back panel is going to be a problem. The teardown shows it's a tricky part to repair. Even Apple has confirmed that in its AppleCare+, repairing the iPhone 8's glass back would be a more expensive affair than getting the screen fixed. Final iFixit's verdict, "The durability of the glass back remains to be seen, but replacements are likely to be very difficult."
It acquired a quite decent score
The pros are that the most commonly repaired components, i.e. display and battery, can be easily accessed. As the new phone features wireless charging, there will be less strain on the lighting port, which gets damaged easily. The iPhone 8 got six out of ten, with ten being the easiest to repair, higher than Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 (four) and the Essential Phone (one).
iPhone 8 and 8 Plus witness lukewarm sales
Reports suggest that Apple is taking a beating in iPhone 8 and 8 Plus sales worldwide, as more consumers are waiting to purchase the iPhone X, rather than spending money on them. Just a friendly reminder, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus' launch, in India, is slated for September 29. However, pre-bookings have already begun. The iPhone X will make India-debut on November 3.
