Understanding DxOMark and its ratings
DxOMark is a benchmarking website that tests different types of cameras, ranging from smartphones to professional cameras. For ratings, several industry-standard tests are conducted wherein 1,500+ images and 2+ hours of video are captured and examined in controlled lab environments and in natural indoor/outdoor scenes.
Here's how iPhone 11 Pro Max performed in the tests
With a fast and accurate autofocus system, consistent exposure across different lighting conditions and very wide dynamic range, the iPhone 11 Pro Max scored a total of 124 points in the still photos test. In the video tests, DxOMark awarded the Apple flagship 102 points, making it share the top spot with the Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro Premium Edition.
Shortcomings noted by DxOMark in its report
According to DxOMark, the still images captured by the iPhone 11 Pro Max did show some highlights clipping in "very difficult scenes", a lightly greenish cast was visible in some indoor scenes and a slight yellow cast was noted in portrait mode. In video tests, some white balance issues and occasional aliasing effect was spotted. Meanwhile, the front-camera's performance is yet to be published.
