Don't update! iOS 12.1.1 brings a critical mobile data-killing bug
Just a few days back, Apple released iOS 12.1.1 with a number of much-needed improvements and a new option to flip camera during FaceTime calls. The update is being rolled out successfully, but several users have reported that it comes with a critical bug, one capable of killing your iPhone's mobile data connection and affecting your internet experience, Forbes reported. Details here.
What happens after updating to iOS 12.1.1?
After iOS 12.1.1 started rolling out, multiple reports related to a weird network issue surfaced on the internet. The glitch occurred after installing the update and seemed to affect people in various countries and in different ways. In some cases, it killed their 4G data connection entirely, while in others, it killed off the connection for some apps but kept working for others.
Here are some complaints
Users being forced to look for Wi-Fi
Though the true scale remains unknown, a significant number of iOS users appear to be affected by this weird bug. They are facing trouble in staying connected and being forced to search for an active Wi-Fi connection, just to use basic web-based apps. Also, it is important to note that no fix has appeared to have worked for the glitch, neither permanently nor temporarily.
It seems, Apple knew about this problem
Also, it seems Apple was aware of this problem. The bug was reported to the company by iOS 12.1.1 beta testers last month itself, but somehow, it made it to the official release.
So, what can you do?
Apple has not commented on the matter, but, going by its service standards, we expect to see an official fix pretty soon. However, before that happens, we recommend not installing the latest update as it might your iOS device too. It can be a tad annoying, but as of now, this is your best chance to stay clear of this bug.
