You can soon post Instagram Stories directly on WhatsApp!
Facebook-owned popular image sharing platform Instagram is soon rolling out a feature to allow users to post Instagram Stories directly as a WhatsApp Status. Last October, the feature for sharing Instagram Stories on Facebook was introduced; the same is now being brought to popular messaging app, WhatsApp. Just like the Instagram Stories, the shared WhatsApp Status disappears after 24 hours. Here's how it works.
Instagram Story sharing feature on limited basis
A TechCrunch report says Facebook is currently testing the feature for sharing Instagram Story on WhatsApp. The feature would allow users to post photos, GIFs, and videos decorated with emojis and stickers. The Stories shared as WhatsApp Status will appear on the status bar and disappear after 24 hours. Also, such a shared Story will be encrypted just like the chats on WhatsApp.
How to share Insta Stories on WhatsApp?
The new Story sharing feature is still in testing and is available to limited users only, meaning select users can share Instagram Stories as WhatsApp Status. Instagrammers would see an option to share Stories to WhatsApp on the Instagram sharing screen. They need to click "send" to post their Stories. The official launch of the feature would happen soon; no timeline has been revealed.
Testing ways to improve Instagram
A spokesperson for Instagram stated: "We are always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and make it easier to share any moment with the people who matter to you." TechCrunch said this move could significantly destabilize Instagram rival, Snapchat.
Why is Facebook making Insta Stories shareable on WhatsApp?
With this new feature, Facebook is trying to expand Instagram Stories and WhatsApp Status user bases and enhance customer experience. Mark Zuckerberg said Instagram Stories has 300mn daily active users (DAUs). The feature would help Stories generate more traffic, especially in markets where WhatsApp is more popular. It would help increase the usage of WhatsApp Status feature, which also has over 300mn DAUs.
Instagram Stories, already very popular
The TechCrunch report noted: "It's (the Stories sharing feature) to give one more bit of functionality and therefore usage to Instagram Stories, which are already very popular and as of last June were outstripping usage of the Snapchat product they were designed to clone."
