Instagram brings status update feature to user profiles
Instagram is amplifying the visibility of its status update feature, Notes, within the app. Previously accessible only via Instagram's inbox, these short updates will soon be directly visible on user profiles. This enhancement aims to offer a fresh way for users to share their current status or activity with their followers and increase interaction within the platform.
Instagram introduces interactive features to Notes
In December, Instagram added a reply function to Notes, enhancing its interactive nature. The platform is also testing "prompts" for Notes, which will allow users to pose questions for their friends to answer in their updates. This mirrors the collaborative nature of the "Add yours" templates used for Stories, further promoting user engagement within the app.
Instagram's Notes: A tool for more personalized interaction
Notes on Instagram operate similarly to Stories, being available for 24 hours and visible only to mutual followers. Unlike regular grid or Stories posts, they are not designed for wide sharing but rather for smaller, select groups of friends. This feature was launched by Meta in 2022 with the aim of encouraging users to post more frequently within their close circles.
Instagram rolls out new 'Cutouts' feature for user content
Instagram is also introducing a new "Cutouts" feature, allowing users to create stickers from objects in their photos. Similar to a feature found on iOS, these stickers can be included in Stories or a Reel. Users can also make cutouts from other users' public posts, offering a unique way to remix content. However, Instagram provides an option for users to disable this feature if they prefer not to have their content reused.
