Instagram's new feature lets you add song to your profile
Instagram has introduced a new feature that allows users to add their favorite song to their profile, reminiscent of the early 2000s social networking site, Myspace. The selected track will be displayed in the bio section of a user's profile and will remain there until the user decides to remove or replace it. Unlike Myspace, these songs will not play automatically when someone visits a profile. Instead, visitors have the option to play or pause the track at their discretion.
How to add a song to your profile?
To add a song, users need to visit the "Edit profile" page and choose a track from Instagram's extensive library of licensed music. This collection is also used for features like Reels or posts. Users can select a 30-second clip from their chosen song to feature on their profile. The selected track can be changed or removed at any time by revisiting the "Edit profile" section or tapping on the song directly from their profile page.
Instagram collaborates with pop star for feature launch
The launch of this new feature is being promoted in partnership with pop star Sabrina Carpenter. Starting today, Carpenter's official Instagram profile will showcase a snippet of unreleased song Taste from her upcoming album set to release on Friday. Instagram has stated that the only way to preview this track before its full release is through the new profile music feature.
Instagram adds hidden features themed around Carpenter's album
In addition to the profile music feature, Instagram is introducing hidden features related to Carpenter's forthcoming album, Short n' Sweet. Using specific keywords like "Sabrina" or the coffee cup emoji will temporarily change Notes messages to a light blue color. A Carpenter-themed chat theme featuring lipstick kisses is also part of this update. These additions aim to enhance user profiles by allowing them to express their musical preferences and boost their creative expression on the platform.
Instagram's journey with music features
Instagram began experimenting with music on profiles in 2022. The platform first introduced the ability to add music to Stories in 2018 and expanded this feature last year to include Notes and photo carousels. The introduction of the new profile song feature comes at a time when users are feeling nostalgic about the early days of social networking, with new apps like Noplace offering customizable profiles with vibrant colors.
