Private details of celebs stolen from Instagram
Hackers have attacked Instagram and accessed contact details of "a number of" stars including their phones numbers and email addresses, the social network confirmed. It has emailed the targeted celebs, but didn't reveal the names publicly. Passwords are safe, it said, but has asked people to keep an eye out for suspicious activities. A bug in the company's software facilitated the attack.
Large corporations have fallen down to hackers
This sounds similar to the Sony hack, when private details of its employees as well as celebs, including salaries, social security numbers, confidential emails and even explicit pictures, were released. Sony ended up paying at least $8mn in damages. This year, HBO has been the prime target- several GoT episodes were leaked. Earlier, Netflix lost 'Orange Is the New Black' episodes ahead of time.
Meanwhile, Instagram has upped its security
Instagram said the hack was made possible "by exploiting a bug in an Instagram API", which has now been corrected. "As always, we encourage people to be vigilant about the security of their account and exercise caution if they encounter any suspicious activity," it said.
