Infosys lands major EV deal with Swedish automaker Polestar
Infosys, a leading Indian technology services company, has secured a significant contract with Swedish electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Polestar. The collaboration will focus on developing software for in-car infotainment systems, advanced driver assistance features, telematics, and other electrical/electronics engineering aspects. The partnership also aims to enhance user experience (UX) and deliver unspecified "cloud-powered digital services."
Establishing global technology hub in Bengaluru
As part of the agreement, Infosys will also handle aspects of Polestar's product management, customer engagement, and corporate solutions. The goal is to expedite the delivery of direct-to-consumer digital services through cloud-native development, testing, and data engineering. To facilitate this extensive project, Infosys plans to establish a "global technology hub" for Polestar in Bengaluru. However, details regarding the number of personnel involved or the financial value of the deal have not been disclosed.
Partnership to drive IT efficiencies and innovation
Polestar executives believe that the partnership with Infosys will "generate IT efficiencies and empower innovation." They also expect it to support their expanding vehicle range and upcoming model launches. This strategic alliance underscores the value of offshoring for EV manufacturers, further validating this business model beyond traditional outsourcing. EVs are undoubtedly the future, and Infosys now has an opportunity to establish itself as a leader in the field.
Samsung's recent collaboration with Hyundai and Kia
The Polestar-Infosys collaboration was revealed on the same day Samsung partnered with Hyundai and Kia to integrate Galaxy devices with in-car infotainment and smart home systems. This development will give Polestar and Infosys much to consider as they strategize future models.
