Indians faced over 10M cyberthreats in Q2 2024
A recent report by Kaspersky, a global cybersecurity and digital privacy firm, has revealed that Indian computer users encountered over 10 million cyberthreats during the second quarter of this year. The study also found that nearly one in five users in India were targeted by web-based threats during this period. These attacks primarily exploited vulnerabilities in browsers and their plugins, corrupting user systems when they visited infected websites.
File-less malware: A significant threat
The report identified file-less malware as a significant threat to Indian users, due to its elusive nature and difficulty in detection. Other common modes of cyberattacks included phishing, baiting, and pretexting. Jaydeep Singh, General Manager - India at Kaspersky, emphasized that as Indian users become more digitally savvy, the threat landscape also expands leaving them vulnerable to various types of cyberattacks.
AI being used to exploit user vulnerabilities
Singh also highlighted the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) by cybercriminals to exploit user vulnerabilities. This trend underscores the need for robust cybersecurity measures and user education about potential threats. The report serves as a stark reminder of the escalating cyber threat landscape in India, urging individuals and organizations alike to prioritize their digital security.
