Most cyber-attack vulnerable Indian cities: Is yours on the list?
Two years ago, the world witnessed WannaCry, one of the most devastating cyberattacks that compromised hundreds of thousands of computers in a few hours. The attack raised major cybersecurity alarms, but the risk of such attacks still prevails, especially in India. Now, highlighting this threat, security giant Quick Heal has listed the Indian cities that are most vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Let's take a look.
Cyber-attacks come in all shapes and sizes
For the uninitiated, cyber-attacks don't happen in a specific way; attackers are always exploring unique modes to target big corporations and individuals and steal their finances or confidential data. Sometimes they could phish you into giving away your information while on other occasions, they may use a certain malware or ransomware program (like WannaCry) to compromise your computer and steal data/money forcibly.

The threat of cyber attacks from malware programs is persistent and ever-evolving, which is why companies like Quick Heal exist. They keep an updated database of active threats and offer solutions to protect consumers from a potential attack most of the times. With this information, they even get an idea of which places are most vulnerable to an attack.
These are the most vulnerable cities
Having said that, based on active malware infections, Quick Heal recently revealed that Mumbai is the most vulnerable city to cyber-attacks. The company didn't reveal specific numbers to detail the level of threat but released a list of most vulnerable cities. The ranking mentions a number of regions, with Delhi, Bengaluru, and Kolkata sitting as next most targeted cyber-attack hubs.
Other cities on the list
After Kolkata, the list mentions Pune, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Jabalpur, Bhubaneshwar, Thane, Gurugram, and Patna, with each hosting medium-to-low level of malware threat. Notably, the entry of Jabalpur here shows that even non-metro cities aren't safe from cybercriminals.
Big giants have also been hacked
Over the last few years, hacks have not just hit individuals but also some really big companies, including Yahoo, Marriott, eBay, Facebook, and Quora. You can't control these attacks, but on the ground level, having control of the information you share is possible. This can be done with careful sharing, strong passwords, anti-virus support, two-factor authentication, and, most importantly, awareness of potential threats.
