Vu Televisions' first Android TV to launch on March 13
California-based Vu Televisions will launch its first Android TV in India on March 13. The smart TV will directly compete against Xiaomi's recently launched Mi LED Smart TV 4 and Mi LED Smart TV 4A in the market. Though Vu Televisions has launched smart TVs in India earlier, this is the first time the company is launching its Android TV. Here are the details.
Android TV will give users access to Google Play Store
The company's invitation for the launch event, to be held in Bengaluru next week, reads "Okay Google, Let's Vu." This indicates the introduction of new Android TVs on its platform that will give users direct access to the Google Play Store. From there, they can install apps for Netflix and Amazon Prime instead of having to trust a third party service for the same.
TCL and Sony also offer Android TVs in India
Currently, the only other companies that offer Android TVs in India are TCL and Sony. Vu's aforementioned Android-based smart TV refers to its Quantum Pixelight LED TV, which comes in a 65-inch model and a 75-inch model for Rs. 2,60,000 and Rs 4,00,000, respectively. It runs the company's Premium Smart operating system and is exclusively available on online e-commerce platform Flipkart.
Vu's Android TV better be priced competitively
It is yet to be seen if Vu's new Android TV will be priced appropriately to counter competition from Xiaomi. The latter's Mi LED Smart TV 4A is priced at Rs. 22,999 for the 43-inch model and Rs. 13,999 for the 32-inch model. On the other hand, Xiaomi's Mi LED Smart TV 4 is priced at Rs. 39,999.
