    Mobile download speed increases by 42% in India

    According to a report by global speed test service Ookla, the speed of mobile downloads in India increased by 42.4% at 8.80 Mbps in 2017.

    The Annual Global Report also stated that the speed of fixed broadband downloads in the country has seen a massive rise and increased by 76.9% at 18.82 Mbps.

    Pakistan secures top spot in increase in mobile download speed

    In the list of "world's most populous countries' improvement in mobile downloads," India bagged the second position; while the top spot was acquired by Pakistan with a 56.2% jump in mobile download speed at 13.08 Mbps between November 2016 and November 2017.

    India was followed by Brazil in the third place with a year-on-year increase of 27.6% in mobile download speed at 16.25 Mbps.

    India tops improvement in fixed broadband download speed at 77%

    In the list of "world's most populous countries' improvement in fixed broadband downloads," India secured the top spot followed by China and the United States.

    China's fixed broadband download speed increased by 42.3%, pegging an overall download bandwidth of 61.24 Mbps at the end of November 2017. As for the US, it recorded a year-on-year gain of 37.3% at 75.94 Mbps.

    With the introduction of service providers like Reliance Jio, the Ookla report comes in the wake of an active telecom and broadband sector in the country. Only last year it was reported that India now consumes the most amount of data in the world.
