IKEA's new gaming furniture range is designed for everyday homes
IKEA is set to transform the gaming furniture industry with its latest offering, the Brännboll collection. The new range deviates from the typically dark and edgy "gamer" aesthetic by choosing designs that blend seamlessly with existing home interiors. The collection includes 20 diverse items such as a desk, chairs, accessories, and various storage options. This follows IKEA's ROG collaboration in 2021 which also veered away from the traditional "gamer" look. The Brännboll collection is characterized by distinctively Scandinavian designs.
Seating is the primary focus
Brännboll collection emphasizes seating options, featuring a versatile armchair that can unfold into a lounge position. It also includes a rocking chair designed to sway with your body's movement. Additionally, there's an inflatable donut-style chair complemented by a matching footstool. The collection further introduces an innovative "gaming station" that can be folded into a wardrobe-like structure, complete with an integrated PC tower storage, foldable tabletop, and cable management system.
Right mix of neutrals and bright colors
IKEA maintains that any design promoting extended periods of comfortable sitting is apt for gaming. The company acknowledges that not all gamers want their living space to mirror an energy drink commercial. Drawing inspiration from street sports and athleisure trends, the Brännboll collection showcases a blend of neutral and vibrant colors that seamlessly fit into contemporary homes. The collection includes additional items like a multi-purpose storage box, display shelves, and textile accessories such as a mousepad, rug, and throw.
Pricing for latest collection yet to be revealed
Philip Dilé, IKEA product design developer, stated that the Brännboll collection embraces the idea that gaming is for everyone and belongs everywhere in the home. The collection's goal is to simplify creating spaces equally suited for gaming and everyday living. While promotional images predominantly feature children, Dilé assures that the range caters to all age groups, including adults. Pricing details are yet to be announced, but more information about the Brännboll collection will be available ahead of its September launch.
