New Huawei Watch 2, with eSIM and built-in GPS, launched
As a successor to its Watch 2, Huawei has launched an upgraded model of its smartwatch in China. Called Watch 2 (2018), this model comes with an eSIM for calling and data usage purposes. Huawei Watch 2 (2018) gets eSIM and heart rate monitor
The 2018 edition of the Huawei Watch 2 gets an eSIM, built-in GPS, heart rate monitor, dual microphone, Bluetooth and support for Huawei Pay. The smartwatch has ceramic bezel and comes with a customizable shortcut key that takes you into sport mode (default setting). The watch can track eight different kinds of exercises and features Firstbeat motion algorithm that guides you through workouts.
2018 Huawei Watch 2 gets similar specs as its predecessor
This IP68 certified smartwatch runs Android Wear 2.0 and supports devices running Android Jelly Bean 4.3/iOS 8.2 and above. It sports a 1.2-inch (390x390 pixels) AMOLED display with a pixel density of 328ppi and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The watch is powered by a 1.1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset, coupled with 768MB RAM, 4GB storage, and packs a 420mAh battery with fast-charging support.
Connectivity options, onboard sensors and watch dimensions
For connectivity, the Huawei Watch 2 (2018) offers Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, GPS+Beidou, NFC, 4G LTE, and eSIM. Sensors onboard the watch include 3-axis A+G sensor, 3-axis gyroscope, compass, ambient light sensor, barometer, and heart rate sensor (PPG). The device measures at 45x48x12.6mm.
Launched in China but may enter other markets as well
The Huawei Watch 2 (2018) is available in three variants and three color options: Carbon Black, Star Grey, and Vibrant Orange. The eSIM variant costs CNY 1,988 (Rs. 20,900), the 4G Nano-SIM variant costs CNY 1,888 (Rs. 19,800), and the standard Bluetooth variant costs CNY 1,688 (Rs. 17,800). The watch, only available in China as of now, may also be introduced in other markets.
