Huawei teases launch of its P20 smartphones in India
What does the teaser reveal?
The company's teaser doesn't reveal much and one speculates if Huawei will be launching both the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro smartphones or either of the two. However, the big takeaway here is the sheer existence of this teaser which itself is the surest sign of a P20 launch. One expects to see more teasers as we move closer to an impending Huawei launch.
P20 Pro features the world's first triple-lens camera setup
The Huawei P20 Pro has three rear cameras comprising of 40MP+20MP and 8MP sensors. It also has a premium hybrid zoom support which translates into 3x optical zoom, 5x lossless hybrid zoom, and 10x digital zoom. The Huawei P20 has dual rear cameras comprising of 20MP+12MP sensors. Its camera features superior low-light photography performance and a 3D portrait lighting effect.
The AI-powered camera can recognize objects, outline shapes
Both smartphones offer 4D Predictive Focus that allows randomly moving objects to remain in focus with nearly "zero shutter lag." Both cameras are AI-powered that can recognize over 500 scenarios in 19 categories and understand the outlines of shapes. The phones have a notch on the front and gesture support on the home button. They are dust- and water-resistant, and support wireless charging.
Top-of-the-line specs and slow-mo video recording at 960fps
Both smartphones feature 128GB of storage, 24MP front camera and slow-mo video recording at 960fps. They are powered by Huawei's home-based octa-core Kirin 970 processor and run the EMUI 8.1, which is based on the Android Oreo 8.1 OS. The P20 Pro features a 6.1-inch display, 6GB RAM, and a 4,000mAh battery. The P20 features a 5.8-inch display, 4GB RAM, and a 3,400mAh battery.
Huawei may be re-working its strategy for India
In India's price sensitive market, Huawei tends to favor its Honor sub-brand because its Huawei-brand premium smartphones tend not to perform against the likes of Samsung, Apple and OnePlus. Nonetheless, the Huawei P20 smartphones could attract attention given their top-of-the-line features but their expected high pricing - Rs. 52,200 for P20 and Rs. 72,300 for the P20 Pro - may deter buyers.
