
Huawei's latest flip-style foldable makes Samsung's tech feel outdated
What's the story
Huawei has officially launched its latest innovation, the Pura X foldable smartphone, in China.
The unique device has been designed to be used horizontally as well as vertically, giving you a wider screen than regular flip-style smartphones like Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6.
The cover screen of the Pura X is 3.5-inch wide and features a resolution of 980x980 pixels, a peak brightness of up to 2,500-nits, and an adaptive refresh rate between 1-120Hz.

It features a 50MP (f/1.6) RYYB main camera, a 3.5x optical zoom lens, a 40MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and even a dedicated color sensor.

Inside the Pura X: A closer look
The internal display of the Huawei Pura X is a 6.3-inch panel with a resolution of 2,120x1,320 pixels. It also offers an adaptive refresh rate ranging between 1-120Hz and peak brightness of up to 2,500-nits.
The device comes in a range of colors including Moon Shadow Gray, Zero Degree White, Phantom Night Black, and two collector's editions.

A boon for content consumption
Yu Chengdong, Executive Director of Huawei's Consumer BG, emphasized the benefits of Pura X's wide screen compared to conventional flip-style smartphones.
He said the device is useful for watching online content, as it expands the visible area by 40% for short videos and 60% for images and text.
The internal screen provides a viewing area 30% larger than a regular smartphone with a 16:9 ratio.

Software and battery specs of Pura X
The Pura X runs on Huawei's own Harmony OS 5 with a new native apps ecosystem. The software performance has been improved by as much as 40%.
Under the hood, it packs a 4,720mAh battery with 66W wired fast charging and 40W wireless charging.
The device starts at a price of CNY 7,499 (roughly $1,000) for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant.
