Huawei introduces the rivals to Samsung S20 series
Huawei has unveiled its P40 series of smartphones in China. The flagship range rivals Samsung's S20 line-up with a regular P40, a premium P40 Pro, and a top-of-the-line P40 Pro+. The handsets headline some really lavish hardware including up to five cameras, 5G-enabled Kirin 990 chipset, up to 90Hz OLED screens, and ultra-fast 40W wireless charging support. Here are the finer details.
Huawei P40 Pro+
The Huawei P40 Pro+ comes with a quad-curved design, metal-ceramic body, and is IP68-rated. It offers a 6.58-inch OLED display with Full-HD+ (2640x1200 pixels) resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it has a Kirin 990 5G chip, 8GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and a 4,200mAh battery that supports 40W wired as well as wireless charging.
It offers a total of five cameras
The handset has a penta-lens rear camera including a 50MP main sensor, 40MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 8MP SuperZoom Camera (10X optical zoom), 8MP telephoto sensor (3X optical zoom) and a 3D ToF sensor. On the front, it has a 32MP main lens and a depth sensor.
Huawei P40 Pro
Then, there is P40 Pro, which has almost the same dimensions, display as the P40 Pro+ model except for a glass back instead of ceramic. The hardware remains unchanged too, but it comes with 256GB of built-in storage and 27W wireless charging support. Even the camera is mostly unaltered barring a 12MP telephoto camera that replaces the two zoom sensors of the P40 Pro+.
Huawei P40
Separately, the Huawei P40 comes with a non-curved 6.1-inch Full-HD+ (2340x1080 pixels) OLED display, and is IP53-rated. It is also powered by a Kirin 990 5G processor, paired with 8GB of RAM, 128GB storage, and a 3,800mAh battery which supports 22.5W wired fast charging. Notably, all the three models offer IR-based face unlock, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and do not support Google services.
What's the camera like on the P40?
The standard Huawei P40 has a triple-lens unit comprising a 50MP main sensor, 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and an 8MP telephoto lens. On the front, it also gets the same dual-camera setup that is present on the P40 Pro and P40 Pro+.
Pricing and availability
The vanilla Huawei P40 costs €799 (approximately Rs. 66,000), the premium P40 Pro comes at €999 (approximately Rs. 82,000) and the maxed-out P40 Pro+ will set you back a hefty €1,399 (approximately Rs. 1,50,000). As for availability, the P40 and P40 Pro will go on sale from April 7 while the ultra-luxe P40 Pro+ will be released sometime around June.
