Who will win race of notch-free screen: Samsung or Huawei
We know Samsung is working to launch Galaxy A8s with the new Infinity-O display. However, in this race to offer a notch-free screen, the Korean tech giant may lose to its Chinese arch-rival. Huawei's recently teased Nova 4 smartphone was shown off at a concert in China, confirming the camera cut-out design and suggesting at its imminent launch. Here's everything we know.
Here's how the Huawei Nova 4 will look like
A prototype of Nova 4 was briefly shown off during Chinese singer Jackson Yee's birthday party. As seen in the video, the upcoming phone will have a small camera cutout on the top-left corner of the screen - just like the Galaxy A8s. However, while the back of the phone was not teased, renders hint at a Huawei P20 Pro like triple rear-camera setup.
Why are Samsung and Huawei opting for a camera-hole design?
With this small circular camera cutout, OEMs can offer an edge-to-edge display with increased screen real-estate. This cutout is significantly smaller and aesthetically pleasing (to some) than iPhone X's wide notch or even OPPO and Vivo's waterdrop-like cutout. Moreover, in the landscape position (playing games or watching videos), you're likely to cover the camera with your hands for an unhindered full-screen view.
Meanwhile, this is how A8s will look with Infinity-O display
Meanwhile, Galaxy A8s will feature the Infinity-O display with a 6.7mm (diameter) cut-out for the front camera on the top-left corner. Further, the sensors are expected to be concealed under the display and earpiece to be moved to the top edge of the frame. This design should allow Galaxy A8s to boast a screen-to-body ratio of over 90% and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.
Who will win the race?
Both phones are expected to be launched in December
While previous reports suggested Galaxy A8s will arrive early next year, reputed tipster @IceUniverse says Samsung will launch the phone in December this year. Interestingly, Huawei has also teased the Nova 4 with a December launch. And while we do not have exact launch dates of these phones, it'll be interesting to see who launches the world's first smartphone with a display hole.
