After Samsung, Huawei postpones release of its foldable phone
Huawei has postponed the release of its Mate X foldable phone from June to September as it is doing additional tests to make sure the premium device is ready for consumers. The company has said it was taking a "cautious" approach after Samsung's own foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold, began to break when tested by reviewers in April. Here's all about it.
Huawei Mate X may launch with Android support
Apart from the Galaxy Fold failure, the other reason for the delay of Mate X could be the US trade ban which prohibits American firms to do business with Huawei. Presently, it's unclear if Mate X will run Android out-of-the-box. However, reports suggest it will ship with Google's mobile software as the foldable phone was launched before Huawei was placed on the Entity List.
Recently, Huawei showed off 5G capabilities of Mate X
Separately, Huawei also demonstrated 5G capabilities on its foldable phone, the Mate X. The device, which comes with the in-house Balong 5000 modem, achieved top download speeds of upto 1.2Gbps on China Unicom's 5G. Interestingly, the speeds reached by the premium foldable phone are at par with competing 5G devices such as Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G.
Huawei Mate X: Priced at around Rs. 1,82,000
To recall, Mate X sports a single 8-inch notch-less flexible OLED display which folds inwards to change from a tablet form to a smartphone form-factor, with a 6.6-inch front display and a 6.38-inch rear display. Under the hood, it is backed by the flagship Kirin 980 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM, 512GB of internal storage, and 4,500mAh battery with 55W fast charging support.
The phone offers a triple lens camera setup
The Huawei Mate X sports a LEICA-engineered triple camera setup comprising a 40MP main sensor, a 16MP ultra wide-angle sensor, and an 8MP telephoto sensor.
