#TechBytes: How to turn on speedometer in Google Maps
Whether you are walking or driving, Google Maps offer plenty of features to complement the entire navigation experience. The platform provides Google Assistant support and traffic updates to ensure that you get to your destination safely and as quickly as possible. But, the best part is, it even shows a speedometer to keep you from over-speeding unnecessarily. Here's how you can enable the feature.
Why enabling speedometer is important
Enabling speedometer in Google Maps ensures that you know just how fast you're going while looking for the right route. The feature comes handy if you rely largely on Maps; it can save you the trouble of switching back and forth between the app and the car's dashboard. This way, you can enjoy all the benefits of Maps without unknowingly crossing the speed threshold.
How to enable the speedometer
In order to enable speedometer, open the Google Maps app on your Android device and tap on the hamburger menu on the upper left corner. Then, head over to Settings > Navigation Settings and scroll down to the toggle for 'Speedometer'. Turn the option on and a circular speed indicator will start appearing on the bottom left corner of the navigation screen.
Speedometer only available for Android devices
Google Maps' speedometer is a handy tool, but as of now, it is only available for people using Android smartphones in a select few regions. This includes folks living in India, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Portugal, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Further, you will also need the latest version of Google Maps to start using the capability.
iOS users should get Google Maps speedometer soon
Though there is no official timeline, we expect Google to bring speedometer into the iOS version of Google Maps in the coming months. The search giant has been focusing on its iOS products of late and would not want to skip this feature.
