Now, lock your Netflix profile with a PIN: Here's how
In a welcoming move, Netflix has launched the option to lock individual profiles with a PIN. The feature, accessible through the web, has been specifically designed to keep other users on your account from accessing your profile - and the personalized content experience you may have created for yourself. Here's how to set up the lock for your profile.
Option to create profiles for personalized experiences
Since its early days, Netflix has been offering its users an option to create account profiles. The goal, according to the company, is to make sure that people sharing an account can keep their content, from movies and shows added on their watchlist to recommendations based on watch history, separate from those of other users sharing the account.
Now, you can lock these profiles
Now, as part of a parental control update for its service, Netflix is bringing the option to protect individual profiles in an account with a four-digit PIN. The feature immediately blocks access to the profile as well as its personalized experience, making sure that the content you add to your list or is algorithmically recommended to you remains available only to you.
You can keep kids, friends away from your profile
If you are on a family account, this feature can come handy in ensuring kids on the account do not get access to the profile of adults and all the mature content it may have. Alternatively, in case where your account is shared with friends, you can use the lock to keep them from switching to your profile and seeing your watch history.
How to enable the lock?
To enable the lock, log in to your Netflix account on the web and go to 'Account' from the upper right corner. From there, scroll to 'Profile and Parental Controls', click on the downward arrow next to your profile, and hit the 'Change' button next to Profile lock. Then, enter the password, select 'Require a pin to access this profile', and add the PIN.
Then, your profile will ask for the set PIN
Once the PIN is set, any account user who tries to open your profile will be prompted to enter the passcode for proceeding further. The prompt will appear on all the devices, starting from your smartphone to your TV.
