Hating new Twitter? Here's how to get old interface back
Just recently, Twitter revamped its desktop site with a completely new look. The redesign puts all key features on the front and center, but a large number of people, who were accustomed to the old Twitter interface, didn't like the change. Now, if you are a part of this group, here are some ways to get the old interface back.
First of all, what has changed with the redesign
The new design, inspired by Twitter's mobile app, has relocated all essential features from their original spots, including buttons to access notifications, profiles, and messages. They all now feature on a prominent sidebar on the left with new dedicated buttons, called #Explore and Bookmarks, to access local trends and saved tweets. Further, there are options to change the theme and font of the site.
No official way to return back
Ever since the new interface started rolling out, people have been asking the microblogging site to provide an option to return to the old design. The option was available when the new Twitter was in testing phase, but now, there's no official way to return. This leaves no option but to try work-arounds, third-party hacks, to get the old Twitter interface up and running.
Try the GoodTwitter extension
Notably, when Facebook toyed with the interface of its desktop site, people turned to different browser extensions for returning to the old UI. Now, the same is happening with Twitter, with a number of extensions showing up on Chrome and Firefox web stores. You can try any of these, but we recommend using GoodTwitter, which removes the redesign and doesn't collect any data.
GoodTwitter automatically changes the interface
Once you install GoodTwitter on Chrome or Firefox, it will automatically load the site with the old interface. You will see a grey-colored Twitter logo on the browser toolbar, which would turn blue when twitter.com will open in the old avatar.
Alternatively, head over to Twitter directory
Though there's no direct way to get old interface, one specific option automatically activates it - Twitter directory. Either click on this link (https://twitter.com/i/directory/profiles) or head over to More > Settings and Privacy > About Twitter > Directory from the home page to load the site's old interface. Once it loads, you can go to Home and use the good old Twitter.
New interface is here to stay
While these options will bring the old interface back, it is worth noting that these are just temporary solutions and may or may not work in the future. This means, the sooner you get used to the new look, the better it would be.
