Can't send messages on WhatsApp? Here's how to fix it
WhatsApp users sometimes face problems in sending messages, a problem that can be traced back to several factors. These include an unstable internet connection, using an outdated version of the app, or having to update the mobile operating system (OS). In some cases, the problem may even occur if the verification process wasn't completed during installation.
Checking your internet connection
The first step in troubleshooting "WhatsApp cannot send messages" issue is checking your internet connection. A stable, secure connection is the key for WhatsApp to work properly. If you suspect connectivity issues, reset your modem and router by turning them off for 15-20 seconds and then turning them back on. Also, make sure you're getting adequate Wi-Fi signals or use an Ethernet cable if using WhatsApp on laptop/desktop. If you are using mobile data, check your connection and signal strength.
Restarting your device and updating WhatsApp
Another simple yet effective solution is to restart your device. This can often resolve many glitches and errors. If the problem persists even after a restart, it's advised to check if you're using the latest version of WhatsApp. An outdated app can cause compatibility issues, so updating it through Play Store could potentially fix the problem.
Unblock contacts and complete verification process
If you can't send messages to a particular contact, you might have accidentally blocked them. This can be easily fixed by unblocking the contact via WhatsApp's privacy settings. Head to Settings > Privacy > Contacts > and tap on Blocked contacts. For new WhatsApp users or those using a new device, completing phone number verification is important. An SMS with a unique six-digit code will be sent for this purpose, enabling full access to all of WhatsApp's features once entered.
Updating your phone's OS
An outdated mobile OS could also be why WhatsApp isn't working normally. In this case, you should update your phone's OS by heading over to the "About device" section in your settings app and tapping on the OS update. If none of these methods work, you can contact WhatsApp support for help as a last resort. Go to Settings > Scroll down to Help > tap Help centre and follow the steps.
Problems on the receiver's end
There are several reasons your messages might be delayed or show only a single check mark, such as the recipient's phone being off, outside the coverage area or roaming, or running out of data. Another possible reason WhatsApp shows only a single check mark is that the recipient may have blocked you.
