Here's how Samsung's foldable phone can change the smartphone experience
Just a few days back, Samsung gave a glimpse of its foldable smartphone. The device was unveiled in dim lights to hide some design elements, but we all witnessed its 7.3-inch 'main' and smaller 'cover' screens. The panels will enable seamless switching between smartphone and tablet modes and are likely to open a range of possibilities, but with the right apps. Here's how.
First, have a look at Samsung's foldable phone
Extra screen space for video content, reading books
When unfolded, the main, bigger display of the device could offer a seamless content streaming experience. It could run apps designed for tablets in the unfolded mode, including those for reading eBooks. Also, if Samsung decides to bundle the device with its S-Pen, users could leverage the extra screen real-estate as a sketchbook, Carolina Milanesi, Creative Strategies analyst, told CNET.
Enhanced productivity with multi-window support
While unveiling the foldable phone, Samsung stressed a lot on Multi Active Window - a feature that will run up to three apps at the same time. This, as one could imagine, will make people more productive. They could take notes or live-tweet news updates while browsing on the internet or watching videos or can even chat while doing the same.
More immersive gaming experience
Along with productivity, gaming experience could also go to a whole new level with extra screen space. If developers decide to optimize games like Fortnite, larger screen and multi-window capabilities could be used to run games in split screen mode. For instance, one window could be used for the game itself, while other for chatting with the players.
Multi-user experiences with cover display
Samsung could also use the foldable phone to offer multi-user experiences. For instance, the cover and main displays can be used for watching content by people sitting opposite to each other. It is difficult to imagine that scenario because the cover display comes up only when the main display is folded, but Samsung could give a separate option to do that.
