How do air-conditioned helmets for Indian traffic cops work?
Indian traffic police are now benefiting from air-conditioned (AC) helmets, designed to help them endure the intense heat during their duty hours. These advanced helmets, manufactured by Hyderabad-based start-up Jarsh Safety, are lightweight and feature an integrated AC system. The innovative design aims to reduce the temperature by 10-15 degrees Celsius for the wearer, providing a much-needed break from the scorching heat.
The helmets run on a rechargeable Li-ion battery
The AC helmets are powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery that can last up to 10 hours. The battery pack is worn around the waist, with a red light indicator signaling when recharging is needed. ADCP (traffic) Hazratganj, UP, Ajay Kumar, mentioned that these helmets will be examined for any potential health risks, due to temperature differences between the head and other body parts.
How much do they cost?
The AC helmets weigh 200g, and are ISO as well as OHS certified. The gadgets sport vents through which the cool air flows inside, as well as a plastic shield to guard the wearer's eyes from the Sun. These helmets carry a price tag between ₹13,000 and ₹17,000.
Over 500 AC helmets already being used by police
Several cities, including Bhubaneswar and Vadodara, are currently testing these AC helmets. Over 500 such helmets are already in use by police in Vadodara, according to DCP (traffic), Vadodara city, Jyoti Patel. Patel also revealed plans for potentially equipping the police with AC jackets.
Company is seeking to raise funds for expansion
Kaustubh Kaundinya, Co-founder and CEO of Jarsh Safety, shared that the helmets are primarily meant for temporary use, whenever they're facing this extra heat. He also revealed that the company is seeking to raise money to expand their production facility and product range. This indicates a future plan for increased production and diversification of their innovative safety gear.
