Honor V20 with 48MP camera, Kirin 980 chipset officially unveiled
As the world's first smartphone to feature an in-screen camera, Honor has officially unveiled (not launched) its V20 flagship in Hong Kong today. Interestingly, the announcement comes moments ahead of Samsung's Galaxy A8s launch event in China. Now, Honor V20 becomes the world's first smartphone to house a 48MP camera as Xiaomi's 48MP camera handset still remains unofficial. Here's more about Honor V20.
Honor V20 will be launched globally on January 22
Honor has announced that the V20 flagship will be launched in China on December 26 and will be introduced globally on January 22 in Paris. However, in the foreign markets, the phone is expected to be called Honor View 20.
Honor has revealed the key highlights of the V20
Honor V20 sports a camera hole design with a 4.5mm (diameter) cut-out for the front camera on the top-left corner. This design should allow a screen-to-body ratio of over 90%. Further, the phone packs a 48MP Sony IMX586 camera sensor and runs on the latest 7nm HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset. Honor has also teased GPU Turbo gaming technology and a premium design finish.
Here's a look at Honor V20's 48MP rear camera sensor
While we don't know what kind of a camera setup V20 will offer, we do know that the main sensor will be a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor. It has a 1/2.0-inch CMOS sensor which offers 4-in-1 "Light Fusion". It is a pixel binning technology that combines four pixels into one to offer better low-light images at 12MP resolution and 4-times improved HDR support.
Honor has also showcased a LTE and Wi-Fi linking technology
Alongside the GPU Turbo gaming technology, which enhances processing power and simultaneously reduces battery consumption, Honor has also unveiled a new Link Turbo feature. Link Turbo is essentially a technology that uses AI to understand your network speed and intelligently combines Wi-Fi and LTE connections for faster downloads.
The timing of the announcement is impeccable
While Honor has given us only the key highlights of V20, other important details such as RAM and storage capacity, battery, screen resolution, and front camera specification are still unknown. Hence, this brief unveiling of Honor V20 comes across as more of an opportunity for Honor to claim the coveted "first" title before Samsung showcases its Galaxy A8s with the new Infinity-O design.
