Motorola's foldable Razr will offer some interesting software features
Thanks to some credible reports, we know Motorola Razr is coming in a foldable avatar. Recently, Motorola filed a patent with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), revealing a dual-screen, flip phone-like design. And while details about the specifications and design remain largely unknown, XDA Developers has shared some details about how the Razr's secondary external display will work. Here's everything to know.
Firstly, here's a look at Motorola Razr's foldable design
As per the schematics shared in Motorola's patent, the Razr phone will be a dual-screen folding phone - like Samsung's Galaxy Fold. However, unlike the Fold, which opens like a book, the Razr phone will open vertically - like a flip phone. Moreover, the external shell is likely to house a single camera while the internal display will have a small iPhone X-like notch.
A bit about the feature of Moto Razr
Firstly, the external, "closed display" on the Razr won't have full access to all Android features. Instead, it will support some pre-installed system apps like Moto Display, Moto Actions, and Moto Camera. Moreover, upto 6 Quick Settings tiles will be displayed on the external display. That said, it's unclear if Motorola will allow users to scroll to see more tiles - like Apple Watch.
The "closed display" may also serve as a viewfinder
In the camera app, users can tap on the main display to capture photos or swipe up to zoom in. Further, the external screen may also serve as a viewfinder for clicking selfies. The "closed display" can show the clock, push notifications, media controls and may have a dedicated wallpaper. When unfolded, the external display can also work as a trackpad to scroll webpages.
Moto Razr could be priced at around $1,500
Recently, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Moto Razr could be priced at around $1,500. Back in February, Motorola VP of Global Product Dan Dery confirmed that the company had "no intention of coming later than everybody else in the market." This means we can expect Motorola to launch Moto Razr sometime later this year.
