New Kino app brings professional videography controls to your iPhone
Lux, the creator of the widely-used photography app Halide, has introduced a new professional video capture app named Kino. This app is specifically designed for iOS and aims to cater to the needs of video professionals. Leveraging iPhone 15 Pro's support for ProRes videos encoded in Log format, Kino offers videographers greater control over their final product. The app will be available on the App Store at an introductory price of $9.99 until tomorrow, after which it will cost $19.99.
App's key features include 'Instant Grade' and 'AutoMotion'
Kino boasts of unique features such as "Instant Grade," which allows users to shoot footage with grade presets. Users can also record in Apple Log format within the Kino app and preview or add presets later. Another headline feature, AutoMotion, which "automatically chooses the best exposure settings for cinematic motion blur." These features are designed to provide videographers with more flexibility and control over their work.
Kino offers custom tables and ensures user privacy
Kino provides the option to add LUTs (Look Up Tables), mathematical formulas used to alter the look of footage. Notably, users can add their own custom LUTs, a feature not present in Apple's Final Cut Pro iPad app. The developers have also emphasized on user privacy, assuring that none of their apps gather or collect data or analyze users' videos and photos. Furthermore, they confirmed that there is no generative AI training involved in the app's operation.
