Half of Huawei flagships could be foldable devices by 2021
Whether you are ready or not, foldable phones are here. And going by Huawei's short-term plans, half of its upcoming premium phones could feature the new device format. In a recent interview, Huawei CEO, Richard Yu has said that in two years, half of their devices could be foldable and that they would be priced similar to current flagship phones. Here's more.
Huawei is betting heavily on foldable devices
Given the technology is new, folding phones are expensive to produce and have a small market share. However, Yu said that in the near future, the costs will reduce and "in two years, foldable phones will have a similar price to current flagship phones." He further noted that with this gradual price drop, in two years, "half of our (flagship) devices could be foldable."
Huawei is also planning on a smaller foldable phone
While Huawei is betting heavily on foldable devices, it does recognize that some people will prefer normal smartphones over foldable devices. Hence, we can expect the Chinese tech giant to keep making flagships like its Mate 20 and P30 models. Talking of smaller foldable devices, Yu said that the company plans "for a smaller foldable phone", perhaps half the size of Huawei P30 Pro.

Meanwhile, Huawei's first-ever foldable phone, Mate X features an 8-inch OLED display which folds into a dual-screen smartphone with a 6.6-inch front display and a 6.38-inch rear display. Huawei Mate X will launch in India also
The Indian division of Huawei's Consumer Business Group has confirmed that Mate X will launch in the country later this year. And while the company hasn't shared a specific release date, the premium phone will be available globally in mid-2019. Huawei Mate X is priced at 2,299 euros (approx. Rs. 1,80,000). However, given the taxes, the price may go up to Rs. 2,00,000.
