WhatsApp's 'Delete for all' feature doesn't work in this case
Popular tech website The Next Web has figured out a workaround to save deleted messages on WhatsApp. The website has found out that if a WhatsApp message has been quoted, it remains quoted even after the original message has been deleted. In such a scenario, the 'delete message' feature will not work as intended either in a group chat or a private text.
Quoted messages continue to show in quotes after deletion: Report
"We noticed that quoted messages in chats continue to show in quotes even after they have been wiped. While the original message will successfully disappear, the deleted text continues to show in the recipient's quote," a report on the website revealed.
This isn't the only way to read deleted WhatsApp messages
Notably, other shortcomings in WhatsApp's 'delete message' feature have also been previously discovered. According to Spanish tech blog Android Jefe, deleted WhatsApp messages are still present in the notification log of an Android device and can be easily viewed by users by downloading a third-party app from the Google Play Store called 'Notification History.'
The feature was launched to delete accidental or regretful messages
WhatsApp had launched its 'delete message' feature in October last year to allow users to delete an accidental or regretful message from group and private chats. Even though the instant messaging app allows a message to be deleted till only up to seven minutes after being sent, another recently discovered workaround lets users delete all their WhatsApp messages, regardless of how old they are.
