Google TV's latest update includes 'Find My Remote' feature
Google TV has rolled out a new feature in its latest Android update, that aids users in locating their misplaced remotes. As reported by Android Authority, the beta firmware for Android 14 for TV, announced at Google I/O, includes a "find my remote" function. The feature is activated by pressing a button on the Google TV device, which then triggers a sound on the remote for 30 seconds. This function is only compatible with supported Google TV remote controls.
How it works?
The same "find my remote" feature was also discovered in the Onn Google TV 4K Pro streaming box, released by Walmart earlier this month. According to AFTVNews, the device displays a message about this new feature, and offers an option to enable or disable it. By pressing a button on the front side of the Onn streaming box, it triggers the bundled remote to beep and flash a small LED light, if it's within 30 feet of the box.
What about its availability?
The inclusion of the "find my remote" in Android 14 suggests that it is not exclusive to Walmart, and will be available on other Google TV devices. However, older Google TV remotes lacking a built-in speaker won't be able to support this facility, even when connected to Google TV devices updated to Android 14. Google has not provided any specific details regarding when the Android 14 for TV firmware will be generally available, and which devices will be supported.
