Here are "most-searched" smartphones, consumer-tech products on Google for 2017
As the year 2017 draws to a close, Google has released the annual "Year in Search", revealing the top trending searches of the year. While Hurricane Irma topped the global trending searches, iPhone 8 and iPhone X came in at second and third places, respectively. Apple had a really big year; iPhones top consumer-tech list
2017 has been a significant year for Apple, which celebrated its tenth-anniversary with iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Google's list shows these iPhones were the biggest tech newsmakers this year. iPhone 8 topped the list, followed by iPhone X. iPhone 8 starts at Rs. 64,000, while the bezel-less iPhone X, at Rs. 89,000. Both the devices are powered by Apple's A11 Bionic chipset.
Nintendo Switch ranked third on the list
Japanese video-gaming giant Nintendo's seventh major video-game console, Nintendo Switch, found itself at the third position on Google's most trending tech list. It saw a global release in March this year. It is primarily designed as a home console to be inserted into a docking station to connect to TV. It can be used as a standalone tablet, too, through its LCD screen.
Samsung Galaxy S8 falls behind latest iPhones
South Korean tech giant, Samsung's Galaxy S8 was the fourth most-searched tech term this year, according to Google. Galaxy S8 features a 5.8-inch Infinity Display, housing Samsung Exynos 8895 processor, with 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage. It sports 8MP front and 12MP rear cameras and costs Rs. 53,900. It comes in a larger 6.2-inch variant called Galaxy S8+, priced at Rs. 58,900.
World's most powerful game console ranked fifth
Coming in at fifth is another gaming console unveiled by Microsoft in May'17: the Xbox One X. The higher-end Xbox variant comes with improved hardware and performance. It has ultra high-resolution 4K playback capabilities, liquid-cooling technology, octa-core Scorpio Engine SoC, 12GB RAM, and 1TB storage.
New version of Nokia 3310 and tech nostalgia
The refreshed version of the original 2000s phone, Nokia 3310, took the sixth place on the trending tech list. HMD Global launched revived Nokia 3310 variant in Feb'17. Meanwhile, Razer Phone was ranked seventh. The Android smartphone was designed and developed primarily for gamers by gaming-accessories producer, Razer. It comes with 120Hz refresh-rate 5.7-inch IGZO display, Snapdragon 835 processor, 8GB RAM, and 64GB ROM.
OPPO F5 and OnePlus 5 on the list
Chinese device-maker OPPO's latest OPPO F5 smartphone was ranked eighth on the list. It's one of the best mid-range smartphones ever. It has an AI-powered selfie technology and comes in two variants; its price starts at Rs. 19,990. Another Chinese handset-manufacturer OnePlus's first 2017-flagship, OnePlus 5, stood at the ninth place. The 5.5-inch AMOLED device with Snapdragon 835, 6GB/8GB RAM, starts at Rs. 32,999.
Nokia 6 finds a place on tech trendsetters' list
HMD Global's Nokia 6 smartphone was the tenth "most searched tech term" this year, says Google. Launched in Feb'17, the Nokia 6 comes with a 5.5-inch Full-HD display, Snapdragon 430 processor, 3GB/4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB internal storage, 8MP selfie shooter, and 16MP rear camera. It would receive Oreo update, too. Nokia 6 is one of the best-selling smartphones. Its price starts at Rs. 13,499.
