Check Pixel 9 series's full specs ahead of launch event
Google is gearing up for its annual hardware event, 'Made by Google,' scheduled for Tuesday in Mountain View, California. The tech giant is expected to unveil its latest smartphones: Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL and the Pixel 9 Fold. New iterations of the Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds will also be introduced tomorrow. The event will commence at 10:30 pm IST and can be streamed on the 'Made by Google' YouTube channel.
Pixel 9 series: A shift in design strategy
In a departure from previous launches where the Pro model was larger than the standard variant, this year's Pixel 9 and the 9 Pro are reportedly of identical size. The only larger phone in this series is expected to be the Pixel 9 Pro XL. All Pro models are anticipated to feature a more potent triple-camera array and superior internal specifications, which have already surfaced in various leaks.
All handsets will be powered by Google's Tensor G4 SoC
The Pixel 9 and 9 Pro will have a 6.3-inch OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. The XL variant will offer a 6.8-inch screen with similar features. The Pixel 9 Fold will feature a 6.3-inch outer display and an 8-inch folding screen on the inside. All the handsets will be powered by Google's Tensor G4 SoC. The Pixel 9 will have 12GB of RAM, while the Pixel 9 Pro, Pro XL, and 9 Fold will provide 16GB of RAM.
Non-folding Pixel 9 handsets will have a 50MP main camera
The Pixel 9 will sport a dual rear camera setup with a 50MP main sensor and a 48MP ultrawide lens. For selfies, a 10.5MP front camera will be available. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL's triple rear camera system will comprise a 50MP main, 48MP ultrawide, and 48MP telephoto shooter. The front camera on these will be a 42MP sensor. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will come equipped with a 48MP main camera, 10.5MP ultrawide, and 10.8MP telephoto lens.
Pricing of the Pixel 9 series
The base model of the Pixel 9 Pro will likely be priced at $999, similar to its predecessor, the Pixel 8 Pro. However, the larger variant, Pixel 9 Pro XL is considered a true successor to the Pixel 8 Pro and may carry a higher price tag. The standard Pixel 9 might debut at $900. The foldable handset will be most expensive in the line-up, rumored to cost around $1,800. Notably, the handsets may not ship with Android 15 out-of-the-box.
Pixel Watch and Buds: Expected upgrades
The Pixel Watch is rumored to receive an update, with improvements in battery life, sensing capabilities, and performance. The new wearable is expected to leverage the latest Wear OS features, including tighter integration with Pixel phones, Pixel buds, and smart home devices. Alongside the new phones and watches, Google may also launch the new Pixel Buds and Pixel Buds Pro with enhanced audio quality and additional features that improve voice control experience.
