This Gemini AI feature makes finding photos easier than ever
Google has launched an early access program for its AI-powered photo search tool, Ask Photos. The chatbot allows users to conduct detailed and conversational searches within Google Photos. Initially, this feature is being rolled out to a select group of users in the US. Concurrently, an enhanced search function for more descriptive queries in the photos library is now being introduced to all English-speaking users on both Android and iOS platforms.
Search in Photos gets a major upgrade
The latest update to Google Photos significantly enhances its search functionality. Users can now use more detailed queries to find specific images in their cloud-based photo libraries. For instance, instead of simply searching for "lake," users can now input "kayaking on a lake surrounded by mountains." This feature aims to simplify the process of locating specific photos as users' online photo collections continue to expand.
Ask Photos offers new way to explore your memories
Ask Photos, a chatbot for Google Photos first unveiled at I/O in May, is powered by Gemini. It introduces a new tab within the Photos app that enables users to inquire about any item in their library using natural language. For example, users can ask "Show me the best photo from each national park I've visited," and the chatbot will use location data and AI judgment to find a match.
It ensures user privacy and data security
Google has assured that the data from Photos will not be used for advertising purposes. While human reviewers may assess queries, these will be disconnected from the user's Google account to maintain anonymity. Furthermore, real people will not review responses from Ask Photos, including photos or videos unless feedback is provided by the user or in rare cases to address abuse.
